Annual Branch Awards (2015)

At the AGM on January 13th 2016, voting took place for our annual pub/club awards. The emphatic winner of the Pub of the Year award wasWIGAN CENTRAL, polling over 60% of all votes cast.

All other awards were much more closely contested and the winners are as follows :-

  • Community Pub of the Year :SILVER TALLY(see note below)
  • Cider Pub of the Year :WIGAN CENTRAL
  • Best New Cask Outlet :WIGAN CENTRAL
  • Club of the Year : to be announced after club has been informed

Congratulations to all concerned.Click hereto view all previous award winners.

Note : The Crooke Hall Inn was initially declared Community Pub of the Year by the narrowest of margins - casting vote by the Chairman, having tied with the Silver Tally in Shevington Moor. However, upon learning of the impending departure of the popular licensees of the Crooke Hall, our Chairman rescinded his vote and cast it to the Silver Tally which becomes the Community Pub of the Year 2015.

LocAle Accreditation Scheme [2015]

CAMRA's Locale Accreditation Scheme is simply about local people enjoying local beers in local pubs. We feel that publicans rightfully deserve to be acknowledged for serving beers from local breweries in their pubs and clubs.

Rather than having to be nominated by CAMRA members, wefeel it is fairer and more transparent that publicans should be able to nominate their own pubs, subject to scrutiny of course. After all, it is the publicans that are making the commitment of stocking and serving local ales to an acceptable level of quality.

Using pre-defined criteria, Wigan CAMRA have agreed upon 27 breweries (see below) that satisfy LocAle requirements. We feel that this provides publicans with plenty of scope in choosing their LocAle beers.

If you are a publican and want to know more about the LocAle Scheme or wish to nominate your pub or club for this prestigious award, please contact our LocAle Co-ordinator (Carol Worthington) via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
